Here’s how to make a simple macrame wall decoration: Cut a few pieces of macrame cord or rope to the desired length. A good rule of thumb is to cut them at least three times the length of the finished ornament.
Fold each piece of cord or rope in half and attach it to the wooden dowels using a Lark’s Head knot. Repeat this step until you have as many cords as you want.
After all the strands are inserted, you can begin to knot them. There are many different macrame nodes that you can use but the most basic node is the Square Node. Square To make a knot, take two cords and run the one on the left over the right one. Bring the left cord to the back of the right cord, and then run it up and over the top of the right cord to form a loops. Take the right cord and run it to the back of the left cord and through the looped on the left. Tightly pull both strands to form a knot. Repeat this operation with the same cords, but instead start by passing the right cord over the left cord.
Continue to knot the strands in the desired pattern. You can create rows of Square Nodes or try other nodes, such as Spiral Knot or Half Strap Knot. You can also add beads or other decorations to your design.
After completing your macrame wall decoration, cut off excess rope or rope and hang it on your wall using wooden dowels.
